Hello,
We hope this may be of interest to you or your colleagues.
We have been doing some development work with Lewisham Council in London and are setting up a working Intranet exhibition on Fri & Sat 22nd & 23rd September 2000.
The Intranet exhibition will illustrate some of the benefits of community Intranets, explain low cost connectivity and demonstrate Virtual Neighbourhood Watch.
Local residents will also be using our own self developed software which gives an idiot proof template for building your own web page. People will be encouraged to bring their own stuff in for scanning or use our digital camera to record something about their neighbourhood.
The best web page will be shown on the Lewisham Council site. Although the exhibition is aimed at local people in the New Cross area, it will also be of interest to Councils and other organisations that have expressed interest in the Redbricks Online project.
Some companies are also displaying the latest in technology including Radio LAN's.
Lewisham College will be there and explaining their flexible approach to reaching and training people who want a wired up community.
We will be putting the exhibition 'on the road' nationally and will be able to take it to other local authorities and housing associations that want to introduce the concept to their tenants.
All the recent media coverage on Redbricks has been pulled together on Overmet.net, at www.overmet.net, and it is worth having a look at that.
The Redbricks.org.uk site is still very long and pretty much unedited so can be difficult to grasp, but that too will give you a flavour of what we're doing. The URL is www.redbricks.org.uk
I hope you or someone from your organisation can come, there is no charge and I think it will be a very inspiring experience.
Please get in touch if you want more detailed information.
Regards
